While we're primarily focused on Chicago's innovation economy, we also have our eyes on all of the startup and tech activity happening throughout the entire Midwest. Here are the major tech fundings, acquisitions, mergers, moves and IPOs that went down in the region in March.
3/1: Omaha, Nebraska-based Hayneedle, an online retailer of home goods and furniture, has been acquired by Jet.com, the e-commerce startup that's out to challenge Amazon.
3/1: Cincinnati-based Belcan, a provider of engineering consultancy services, has acquired East Kilbride Engineering Services, a Germany-based engineering consultancy. Financial terms were not disclosed.
3/1: Columbus, Ohio-based GenomeNext, a provider of genomic data management and analysis, has raised a $1.2 million seed round; Hydra Capital led the round.
3/2: Olathe, Kansas-based eSolutions Inc., a provider of healthcare technology and analytics solutions, has acquired Santa Rosa, California-based ClaimRemedi, a provider of billing systems for the healthcare industry. Financial terms were not disclosed.
3/3: Chicago-based private equity firm Pfingsten has closed its fifth fund with just over $380 million in capital commitments.
3/7: Harvey, Illinois-based Atkore International Group, a maker of integrated electrical raceway solutions, has filed for a $100 million IPO.
3/9: St. Louis-based OneSpace, a virtual workforce platform, has raised a $9 million Series B; Lewis & Clark Ventures led the round.
3/14: Oxford, Mississippi-based Next Gear Solutions, a provider of management software for the restoration market, has sold a 30% equity stake to VC firm Serent Capital.
3/15: Minneapolis-based NimbeLink, a Minneapolis-based provider of services, software, and hardwrae for the Internet of Things industry, has raised $2.5 million in funding; First Analysis led the round.
3/16: Eden Prairie-based Williams Sound, a provider of assistive listening systems, has raised an undisclosed amount of private equity from independent investment firm Graycliff Partners.
3/21: Evanston, Illinois-based private equity firm Silver Oak Services Partners has closed its third fund with $335 million in capital commitments.
3/22: St. Louis-based ClubReady, a provider of billing software and services for businesses in the Fitness industry, has raised an undisclosed amount of Series A financing; Level Equity led the round.
3/22: Schaumburg, Illinois-based Benefitexpress, a an online benefits enrollment system, has raised an undisclosed amount of private equity funding from LLR Partners. In addition to the financing, Benefitexpress also revealed that Michael Sternklar, the former head of Mercer’s North American benefits outsourcing business, will replace founder Maria Bradley as CEO. According to the company, Bradley will stay on as a Senior Advisor and a member of its Board of Directors.
3/22: Bang & Olufsen, a Danish maker of high-end speakers that has its U.S. headquarters in Deerfield, Illinois, is reportedly in talks to be acquired by Sparkle Roll Group.
2/23: Louisville, Kentucky-based Edj Analytics, a provider of data analytics services and software, has raised $2.4 million in new venture capital funding; Chrysalis Ventures led the round.
2/23: Overland Park, Kansas-based healthcare IT company Netsmart Technologies Inc has been acquired by GI Partners from Genstar Capital. The deal is valued at $950 million.
3/25: Chicago-based Merit Capital Partners, a capital partner for the middle market, is reportedly targeting $600 million for its sixth mezzanine fund.
3/30: Indianapolis-based Lesson.ly, a developer of learning automation software, has raised a $5 million in Series A; the round was led by OpenView Venture Partners, with participation from High Alpha Capital and Allos Ventures.
3/31: Omaha, Nebraska-based growth equity firm McCarthy Capital has closed its sixth fund with $353 million in capital commitments.
